HASKONING France joins the Artelia Group

In early November, the Artelia Group acquired the French subsidiary of the Royal HaskoningDHV Group, which has offices in Villeneuve d’Ascq and Orange. Haskoning France operates in France and West Africa, especially in the fields of soil remediation, industrial risks and sustainable management of natural resources.

 

Following the acquisition of Copramex two months ago, the Artelia Group has once again expanded the range of environmental services it provides to its key account industrial clients and to local authorities.

 

This takeover has consolidated the activities of Artelia’s Water and Environment sector in France and West Africa by providing further capability in the remediation of polluted sites and the management of industrial risks.

COPRAMEX joins the Artelia Group

At the beginning of September, Artelia acquired Copramex, a Marseille-based company specialised in environmental monitoring of water, soils and sediments.

 

This acquisition will strengthen the group’s service offer in the environmental field, in particular with regard to aquatic environments, in line with its founding activities. It likewise will significantly consolidate Artelia’s Water and Environment activities along the Mediterranean coast by providing additional expertise in environmental analysis and the integration of infrastructure projects.

Artelia's 2011 operating income up by over 20%

Artelia’s newly published annual report underlines the group’s excellent results for the 2011 financial year, confirming the pertinence of the merger between Coteba and Sogreah.

 

Consolidated turnover for the group’s first complete financial year (€317m) is 6% up on 2010 and operating income (€16.1m) has risen by 20%.

 

These figures demonstrate the interest of Artelia’s clients for a strong, diversified engineering group able to assist them throughout the lifetime of their projects. While organic growth has been the principal lever behind this development, external growth has not been forgotten, either in France (with the acquisition of SPRETEC, Détente Consultants and more recently GECC and SOTEC) or internationally (Appleyards, DPG Plan).

 

Over and above these results, in 2011 the new group had the necessary expertise to seize new opportunities for working on major infrastructure and construction projects in France and abroad.

 

In the uncertain economic context of 2012, Artelia is counting on international projects and sustainable development requirements to continue supporting the group’s growth.

Bogota | The French Ambassador in Colombia gives the Mayor of Barranquilla the results of the feasibility study of a public transport system prepared by Artelia

 

Mr Pierre-Jean Vandoorne, French Ambassador in Colombia, officially handed over to the Mayor of Barranquilla, Dra Elsa Noguera the results of the  “Feasibility study of a public transport system for the city of Barranquilla, Columbia”.

 

The ceremony united representatives from various municipal departments who showed their interest in and satisfaction with the results of the study. Prior to this ceremony, the study was presented to French industrial “partners” as well as representatives from the French Embassy in Colombia.

 

The study is a gift from the French government to the City of Barranquilla (French FASEP fund): it is a testament to the good relations between France and Colombia, in particular in terms of technical cooperation. The initiative resulted from the vision of the Mayor and her team for the need  to improve public transport conditions in Barranquilla.

 

This study provided a basis for determining the feasibility (technical, financial, environmental, institutional and contractual) of a tramway on “Calle 30” in Barranquilla, one of the main arteries crossing the city from North to South.

Artelia strengthens its position in Brazil through acquisition of DPG Plan

Artelia Brasil, the Brazilian subsidiary of the Artelia group, has just completed the acquisition of DPG Plan. Based in São Paulo, DPG Plan has a solid reputation for engineering, architectural design and project management services in the fields of industry, logistics, office buildings, hospitals, ports facilities, and water and sanitation infrastructure.

 

This purchase consolidates Artelia’s position in Brazil, enabling it to offer its local and international clients a wider range of skills in the various activity sectors of the group. It will likewise allow for Artelia to consider expanding its operations in Brazil on a scale that is in keeping with the challenges of this large country.

 

Through this transaction, the managers of DPG Plan who together held all its shares have become shareholders of Artelia, which is itself fully owned by its managers and employees.

Artelia celebrates its second anniversary and acquires Sotec

Artelia has just finalised the acquisition of Sotec, a French engineering company based in the Toulouse region operating in the fields of building construction, infrastructure and transportation.

 

Sotec, formerly part of the transport engineering group Systra, strengthens Artelia’s presence in south-west France in two of its markets:

 

  • building construction, with a team of around 40 people based in Toulouse and Montpellier, boasting numerous references in the region;

 

  • infrastructure and transportation, with highly experienced specialists in the area of large-scale projects (Toulouse metro, Nîmes and Toulon public transport systems, etc.), and destined to become the backbone for Artelia’s urban development and transportation activities in this part of the country.

 

This acquisition has made Artelia one of the major engineering companies in south-west France.

 

The acquisition was finalised two years to the day after the formal founding of Artelia on 30 March 2010, and bears witness to the group’s dynamism and appeal. Artelia is indeed developing at a fast rate. Its activity grew by around 10% in 2011 in comparison with 2010, and it is beginning to reap the benefits of its proactive external growth policy. Following the acquisition of Spretec and Détente in 2011, Sotec is the third company to be bought in the first quarter of 2012 after:

 

  • GECC / RL Consultant / Ingetech, an entity based in the Rhône-Alpes region, which reinforced the group’s expertise in the building construction and industrial facilities sector,

 

  • Appleyards, a major British project management company, which enabled Artelia to give a significant boost to its presence in the United Kingdom. Artelia UK and Appleyards together employ 150 people and represent an annual turnover of around 15 million euros.

IMO recommends, Port Revel adapts... and introduces "Green Shiphandling"

 

Pending the issue of more stringent measures by international institutions, Port Revel considers that the time has come to help raise the awareness of mariners responsible for manoeuvring large ships in harbour areas by providing them with ways of reducing fuel consumption and consequently CO2and dust emissions in sensitive environments.

With this “Clean Shiphandling” principle in mind, Port Revel has equipped two of its eleven ships with sensors for measuring total energy consumption during a given shiphandling operation. Trainees are thus challenged to carry out the operation in question with a target level of consumption (and hence atmospheric emissions) that is fixed in advance by the Centre’s instructors, who have themselves already faced the same challenge.

We hope this will give a new incentive to all seafarers to contribute to “Green Shiphandling”.

Artelia strengthens its position in the United Kingdom by acquiring the Appleyards Group

 

Artelia UK, the British subsidiary of the Artelia group, has finalised the acquisition of the Appleyards group, a company based in London and Kent, and recognised for its know-how and reputation in the fields of project management, consultancy and quantity surveying for building construction, infrastructure and education projects.

With this acquisition, the Artelia group headcount in the United Kingdom now totals 150 employees offering local and international clients a reinforced and extended skill set in its different activity sectors.

 

Appleyards group managers and employees who previously held 100% of the group’s stock, will now become shareholders in the Artelia group, which is also fully owned by its managers and employees.

 

The target turnover for this new acquisition in 2012 is around €15 million.
