16 September 2013. Artelia, the leading independent engineering firm in France, has just acquired Secoa, a design office specialising in structural engineering studies and in particular bridges.
Since it was created in 1978, Secoa has participated in many projects concerning complex structures in France and around the world, providing design and construction supervision services, inspections and expert appraisals. Some the most prestigious projects it has been involved in are: the Charles-de-Gaulle bridge over the river Seine in Paris, the Vasco de Gama bridge over the river Tagus in Lisbon, and the Saint-Paul viaduct for the Tamarins road in Reunion Island. Other recent examples of projects involving Secoa’s expertise are: the viaduct over the river Landbach for the East European high-speed train line, the bridge over the river Loire for the A71 motorway in the south of Orléans, and the bridge over wadi El Malleh in Morocco.
With this acquisition, Artelia confirms its aim to become a magnet for engineering firms attracted by the group’s national and international ambitions, in the context of an organisation that promotes innovation and technical excellence and whose capital is held entirely by its executives and employees.

The official invitation sent by the King of Morocco underlines the special links between the two governments and the high economic stakes of this visit.
The French President was accompanied by a delegation of approximately fifty company directors led by Mr Jean-René Fourtou (President of Vivendi’s supervisory board) and Jean-Paul Herteman (Managing Director of Safran), who are co-presidents of the French-Moroccan company directors’ Club; Alain Bentejac, Co-President of Artelia, was the representative for our group and our Moroccan subsidiary.

Beginning April, the Artelia Group acquired the engineering department of Icade, comprising Arcoba, Gestec and Setrhi-Setae, thereby strengthening its Building Construction & Industrial Facilities sector and making it France’s leading firm in its field.
This acquisition will in particular enable Artelia to build its business on public- and private-sector housing, healthcare and energy efficiency projects, as well as strengthen its presence in the Greater Paris, Rhône-Alpes and French Mediterranean regions.
Artelia is continuing to develop through organic and external growth and by reaching out to new market segments. The Group thus completed six external growth operations in 2012, involving companies in Brazil, Great Britain and France with a total turnover of €23m and adding 200 people to its staff.
This latest acquisition proves once again the relevance of Artelia’s strategy and business model.

Artelia has embarked on a new initiative, the Artelia Cafés, inviting a leading name in the field of architecture and urban planning to an open, friendly discussion over breakfast. The purpose of the meeting, between urban planners and engineers, is to think together about a key leading-edge topic associated with a technical issue requiring a joint response from experts in the two fields.
For its first Artelia Café, our group invited the international architectural design firm Valode & Pistre to discuss smart cities. The two firms, both involved in designing cities, looked into the changes required to enable our respective professions to meet the new challenges of rapid urbanisation in creative yet pragmatic ways. The meeting was a success, and the discussions were fruitful. The concept of inviting architects to interact with engineers is novel and constructive, and the feedback from this first meeting is highly encouraging.
