Development of the Plage de l'Est
Reclaiming the river by protecting and rehabilitating the riverbank
The Plage de l’Est development is located in the Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles borough and offers a unique space in eastern Montreal where citizens can gather and enjoy the banks of the St. Lawrence River. It’s a project that emerged from an architectural competition won by Ruccolo + Faubert Architectes & Ni conception architecture de paysage, featuring an illuminated promenade at night, a wooden jetty extending towards the river, street furniture, a service pavilion, volleyball courts and a shelter overlooking the jetty.

CONTEXT & ISSUES
Our teams were involved from the very first phase of the project, providing engineering services for the design of the storm sewer essential to the replacement of existing storm outfalls. In the second phase, we collaborated with the architects to provide expertise in hydraulics, infrastructure, structure, mechanics and electricity, enabling optimal design of the beach facilities, including the jetty and the floating dock in the floodplain. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the Plage de l’Est demonstrates universal accessibility, sustainable development and the privileged connection between visitors and the river.
