RIVER AND ESTUARY DEVELOPEMENTS

Artelia designs river development schemes that function efficiently while respecting the natural flow conditions.

OUR SERVICES

Thanks to our wealth of expertise in sedimentology, river morphology, debris flows and hydrosedimentary modelling, we have an in-depth understanding of watercourses. This enables us to reconcile the many challenges related to mountain torrents and rivers of all sizes, by drawing together all the issues inherent to their use and conservation: flood and erosion protection, commercial and recreational navigation, tourist activities, and respect for the ecological functions of aquatic environments.

We perform assessments, design functional schemes, and restore and improve existing structures, striving to respect the natural flow conditions in everything we do. We make reasoned use of conventional development techniques (embankments, rockfill protection, sills and river training works) while also deploying more innovative methods for restoring unconfined flow conditions.

Estuary and wetland restoration is another area in which we excel, drawing on our hydrodynamics and sedimentology expertise, our experience of tidal flats and our mathematical and physical modelling tools to study and implement cutting-edge techniques for rewilding and sustainably managing these ecosystems.

Artelia has a highly experienced physical and numerical modelling department, which each year studies numerous projects relating to river sediment dynamics and torrential flow issues (erosion and sedimentation linked to structures, debris flows).
