Living place family home
A visionary concept for modular, sustainable and low-carbon housing
Living Places is a housing concept that Artelia Denmark is developing in partnership with Velux, Effekt Architects and the contractor Enemærke & Petersen. The aim is to create a new standard for more sustainable and healthier single-family homes by developing a scalable and commercially viable concept.

CONTEXT & ISSUES
The main idea behind Living Places is to substantially reduce CO2 emissions without compromising occupant comfort in terms of indoor climate, natural light or air quality. First and foremost, the aim is to move towards smaller homes, combined with spaces shared with other residents, which offers the dual advantage of limiting the carbon footprint and encouraging sociability. The concept makes maximum use of daylight and natural ventilation to ensure the healthiest possible indoor climate. It uses a range of technical solutions to ensure energy-efficient management (reinforced thermal insulation). In terms of construction, priority is given to wood and, more generally, to bio-sourced materials.
The complex is simple to build, with controlled costs, and can be adapted to suit different environments. It’s a modular concept that allows you to create homes of varying heights depending on the number of occupants. The first Living Places prototypes are currently being built in the Jernbanebyen district of Copenhagen. The aim is to limit emissions to less than 4 kg of CO2/m2/year, three times lower than the average for traditional Danish homes (11 kg).
