Universeine reversible eco-district

An athletes’ village designed for conversion at the end of the Games.

Developed by Vinci Immobilier for Seine Ampère, the Universeine project involves transforming a former industrial wasteland into a mixed-use, sustainable district.

This area of almost 7 hectares will be home to a residential complex of over 1,000 accommodation units, community facilities, shops and commercial premises. Some of the buildings (the athletes’ village) have been specially designed to be reversible.

CONTEXT & ISSUES

This eco-district will accommodate 79,000 m2 of housing, 63,000 m2 of offices and 4,000 m2 of shops and business premises ( nursery, medical centre). The project is aiming for HQE (high environmental quality) certification, both through the energy performance of the buildings and by offering an ecological corridor made up of gardens, a shared greenhouse and green terraces.

One of the innovative aspects of this district is the modularity of some buildings. Universeine is to host the athletes’ village for the Paris Games in 2024, but these areas have been designed to be converted into housing and offices once the event is over.

Artelia is therefore providing complete project management for the construction of part of the athletes’ accommodation village (over 30,000 m2 of floor space) and the refurbishment of the Maxell hall, which will serve as a support building (polyclinic, fitness centre, information centre, etc.) during the games and will then be converted into a large inter-company restaurant and a coworking and office space.
