COASTAL PROTECTION
AND DEVELOPMENT

Preserving coastlines and adapting coastal areas to rising sea levels are key areas of activity for Artelia.

OUR SERVICES

Using our expert knowledge of coastal erosion issues, we design and implement sustainable coastline management projects in a variety of countries, factoring in variations and forecasts relating to climate change and sea level rise. Our teams perform statutory studies of coastal and estuary projects (impact assessments, water and aquatic environment studies, Natural 2000 studies in France) and help to draw up prevention plans for coastal risks such as erosion and flooding.

Estuary and wetland restoration is another specialist field for Artelia, which draws on its hydrodynamics and sedimentology expertise, its experience of tidal flats and its mathematical and physical modelling tools to study and implement cutting-edge techniques for rewilding and sustainably managing these fragile coastal ecosystems.

Artelia also has a hydraulics laboratory with a proven track record stretching back over a century. Wave flumes and tanks of various sizes equipped with sophisticated management and measuring systems are used for studying the hydro-sedimentary dynamics of coastal areas, bays and estuaries (movable-bed scale models), the stability of protection structures, and the dynamic interactions between fluids and structures.
